Founder and Owner
Barbara has over 32 years of experience in assisting middle school and high school students and parents with college admission preparation. She meets with high school students and parents to provide updated advice on academic course selection, college entrance test timelines, extracurricular activities, college choices, and how to be a unique college applicant. In addition, she directs the college application process for juniors and seniors, including the review of applications. College Guidance also provides advisement related to graduate school admission.
Prior to establishing College Guidance, Barbara was a Guidance Assistant at Villa Park High School in Villa Park, California. In 1984, she chartered and directed the Orange Unified School District's Parent University College Guidance Program, which included writing and publicizing the monthly Academic Bulletin throughout the District's four high schools. In 1987, Barbara founded College Guidance which offers 6th through 12th graders and their parents personalized academic advisement to prepare for the college admission process. In 1992, College Guidance became Barbara's sole business.
Barbara is an Honors graduate of UC Berkeley and holds a joint B.A. degree in Sociology and Child Psychology with emphasis on the adolescent. She also holds a graduate degree in Pupil Personnel Counseling from UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Education and is a member of the National Association of Admission Counseling (NACAC), the Western Association of College Admission Counseling (WACAC), and the Higher Educational Consultants Association (HECA).
Barbara and her husband have four grown children who all graduated from UC Berkeley and thirteen grandchildren.
